Task List Updates from the BACB

October 19, 2020

Written by Brianna Kmec

This past August, the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) released a newsletter detailing their changes to the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) 5th edition task list.

In accordance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) risk management wheel, to protect against the loss of organization, the changes in the BCBA 5th edition task list were analyzed. Based on internal discussions and valuations on what is best for users, we found that the organization of the newly implemented August task list could be improved.

To implement our changes, it was brought to the attention of the BACB in September to ensure that we were not in violation of the code of ethics. After a month, we received approval of our changes from the BACB.

August 2020 Newsletter

BACB Changes:

The August changes to the original BCBA/BCaBA 5th edition task list split the document into two different formats. The change removed task list items F-8, F-9, H-8, and I-6 and made them specific to the BCBA’s.

The BACB states in their newsletter that “The removal of these four tasks should only be viewed through the lens of their relevance to the testing of entry-level BAaBAs and not as an indication of their lack of importance or relevance to the practice of BCaBAs.”

BACB Approved

My Research Toolbox Changes

Due to no significant differences between the two documents/ evaluated training provided, it was simplified to one coherent document.  The simplification implemented allows for better tracking of training and evaluations conducted.

In our new task list, the tasks at question will have a label acknowledging that the tasks are required for BCBA only, but will be able to be accessed at the BCaBA level. These changes were implemented to the F-8, F-9, H-8, and I-6 task list items.

Our improved task list is available for anyone to use.

The image above shows an example of one of the tasks from our improved F-Behavior Assessment task area with the F-8 and F-9 tasks labeled as BCBA ONLY.

We have officially enabled cryptographic modules that have been thoroughly tested and validated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Testing Laboratory. The tables below, illustrate security cipher suites in the pre and post validation phase.

Pre-Validation

Suites in server-preferred order

TLS 1.3

TLS 1.2

AES_256_GCM_SHA384

ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384

CHACHA20_POLY1305_SHA256

ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256

AES_128_GCM_SHA256

DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384

DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256

ECDHE_RSA_WITH_ARIA_256_GCM_SHA384

DHE_RSA_WITH_ARIA_256_GCM_SHA384

ECDHE_RSA_WITH_ARIA_128_GCM_SHA256

DHE_RSA_WITH_ARIA_128_GCM_SHA256

Post-Validation

Suites in server-preferred order

TLS 1.3

TLS 1.2

AES_256_GCM_SHA384

ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384

ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256

DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384

DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256

The security cipher suites selected are built on top of Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) certified modules containing:

(a) Bug Fixes

(b) Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) Fixes

(c) Enhancements

(d) Additional Cryptographic Hash Functions

This is used to simultaneously verify both data integrity and authenticity of a message.

Disclaimer: We strongly value protecting the integrity of our users data. Using cryptographic modules built on top of heavily tested FIPS certified modules is a voluntary act. This is important because it defines compliance in encryption and security measures in the United States Government; which means that our systems have been thoroughly reviewed and tested to be FIPS compliant.

New Features

New Features

We have expanded the current abilities of the system to report fieldwork experience towards certification. The “Daily Certification Logs” & “Monthly Certification Audit Logs” contain the most accurate reports data that would count towards certification. The “Daily Logs” allow the supervisee to quickly filter data by organization, responsible supervisor & session supervisor.

The “Monthly Audit by Category” allow the supervisee to quickly filter data by organization, responsible supervisor, and both categories.

These features are useful for supervisee’s working across multiple organizations, who have multiple supervisors, and the same supervisor working across different organizations. To begin documenting fieldwork experience hours a premium subscription must be purchased. The logs can be found under:Notes & Data Analytics → Certification Logs → My Certification Logs

Responsible Supervisors can now view supervisee fieldwork experience towards certification under:Notes & Data Analytics → Certification Logs → Supervisee Certification Logs

This feature also requires premium subscription.

Security Improvements

Fast Behavior Results LLC, and the webpage myresearchtoolbox.net uses very strong security settings to protect user data. We are aware that some users experienced errors, slow loading times, and denied access to the server. We have made improvements calibrating the security settings to avoid false positive errors.

Bug Fixes

Fixed a bug with the supervisor documentation forms. While this bug did not prevent anyone from entering data it was reporting false errors when users added a new record.
